SOUTHEAST MISSOURI YOUTH-LEAD WORKSHOP

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI YOUTH-LEAD WORKSHOP

On September 18, 2019, the FCC Behavioral Health Prevention Center and the Partnership for Success hosted our second Youth-Lead workshop in Portageville Missouri. The training was facilitated by Carrie Foster from the Search Institute and she led 35 Southeast Missouri youth through interactive and high energy activities and what it means to be a leader. Search Institute specializes in research to understand what youth need to thrive and be successful in life and focuses on building developmental assets through positive reinforcement and the power of positive relationships.

Five groups of teens, representing Bloomfield, Campbell, Cape Girardeau, Caruthersville, Charleston and New Madrid, left the workshop empowered to be leaders in their schools and communities. Each group was tasked with planning an event with a focus on substance use prevention and/or the upcoming Red Ribbon Week. The groups presented their plans at the end of the workshop and we look forward to seeing and hearing about those events as they each flex their new and evolving leadership skills!
